Our experience has led to the development of our successful approach we call the “4 Ps of Grant Support.”© May 2023, Heather Walker-Clark.

  • People – Develop relationships with the people that make the grants available. This is the FIRST and perhaps the most important step to being successful at grant writing. This step, in our experience, SIGNIFICANTLY increases the likelihood of a grant award.
  • Project – Apply for grants that fund projects with purpose AND a direct and measurable benefit to the community. Identify projects that appeal to the funder and their mission.
  • Process – Follow the instructions. Answer the questions – nothing more, nothing less. Submit on time. Attach the required documents.
  • Performance – Commit to the project as intended and as described in the application. This establishes trust with the funder and increases the likelihood of support with future projects. Changes to the project MUST be discussed with funders immediately. Report outcomes.

PRICING STRUCTURE

This option is a month-to-month contract for to include all services outlined in the agreement with the client. With this option, our team is considered “extended staff” and work until the job is done, regardless of hours. Services are determined by the client and then the monthly hours are estimated based on services desired for a set monthly retainer.

*Limited to TWO grant submissions per month (ONE if the grant is federal).
*Does not include any necessary travel costs, which would be added to the monthly invoice.

This option includes an itemized invoice billed hourly, plus any travel costs, for all time contributed toward project(s) [start to finish] including all services outlined in the agreement with the client.

*Recommended for clients who want to only work with the client for a short stent of time – for grant research, consulting, or maybe a specific project and/or grant

When clients have one specific grant they want to apply for (assuming they are “grant-ready,”) and want to just bring our team on for one project, we will estimate the number of hours to get the grant done start to finish – including getting the grant submitted on time. The amount agreed upon is due at the time of grant submission.

For clients who are weary of the “all-inclusive” monthly retainer, but want to work on a retainer basis, we can do a smaller monthly retainer that would include services such as grant research, grant-readiness consulting, and all communication time. Once a project is identified and agreed upon by the client and our team, we will estimate the hours and agree upon a project-based cost, which would then be due at the time of grant submission/project completion.

A good rule of thumb on estimated hours for grants is as follows:

  • Smaller private foundation grants can take anywhere from 5 to 15 hours total, depending on how much research is necessary (which is determined by how much data your team already has in place).
  • Larger private foundation grants and smaller state/federal grants can take anywhere from 20 to 50 hours, again depending on several grant-ready variables.
  • Larger federal grants can take up to 100 hours and normally no less than 40/50 hours. These grants are typically very involved, require many pages of narrative, a logic model, visual aids, evidence-based modeling/research, detailed budgeting, etc. However, when awarded, these grants can bring a larger amount of funding to a project.

Bethany Davis

Grant-Writer

Bethany Davis is a Physical therapist, yoga teacher, and Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition student at Sonoran University in Tempe, Arizona. Graduating with her doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2020, Bethany has been practicing physical therapy for 3 years, working in multiple settings including acute care and outpatient rehabilitation. She also has experience working in cardiac rehabilitation and has her Bachelor’s in Exercise Science from Arkansas State University.

Bethany has been teaching yoga and meditation for 6+ years all throughout the Jonesboro community in different studios and settings and considers yoga and meditation two of her biggest loves and forms of personal therapy. She integrates mindfulness, breathing techniques, and yoga postures into her physical therapy services, and believes that they all overlap and intertwine into our overall health and well-being.

Bethany’s passion for mindful living carries over into an online wellness and social media platform where she blogs about life, discusses the realness of depression and anxiety, mindfulness tips, healthy recipes, and online yoga classes. She is set to graduate in 2024 with her master’s degree in nutrition and plans to incorporate all of the above to help those improve their nutritional deficits. Her overall brand is to create and inspire those online and in-person to cultivate a healthy way of being, where one can use different tools to live their best life, despite the stresses of our everyday lives.

For fun, Bethany loves to inspire on social media, cook, read, spend time with her puppies, go for walks, swim, and spend time with dear friends and family. Taking on many jobs throughout her career, she is excited to join a grant writing team that works to create change in the town where she was raised.
